Ok, so here's my first pass at Yuletide recs. I have a ton of things bookmarked that I still haven't gotten to - and since school starts back up this week, may not get to for awhile, wah. But, all the same, here's a brief list of what I've enjoyed so far:
The Good Place
1. Life, Death and Breakfast: Basically, Chidi and Jason being bros and it is the best. I have a special fondness for Jason since he too is from Florida and there is a lot to be delighted by in this fic (if you want to read about Jason looking for treasure where there should not be treasure, offering to defend Chidi against a kangaroo, or asking Chidi about what he thinks heaven might be like in a very Jason-y way, you can't do better than to read this).
2. What You Wish For: Eleanor/Tahani, of which there is a quite a bit this year? and it is all really great. But this was one of my faves - the characters are given pets that make them uniquely miserable, and it's a good time.
3. And a Thousand Other Variations: Lots of tiny possible storylings where other characters figure it out. All ten resets (there's one where they're all dogs? it's great) exist in my version of the Good Place.
4. Performance Review: The Judge receives a performance review and it's perfectly done.
Other Stuff
5. Cautionary Tale: A Pied Piper fic! It's just incredibly well-written and you should go read it now.
6. The inevitability of history: Voynich Manuscript fic - alternative history of science, yay!
7. The Never-Puts-Down-the-Phone Cure: Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle, a delight.
8. Refraction: 17776! wildly funny and the voices are perfect and also, biscuit!fic made me crack up.
9. Battle Lines: Gilgamesh and space pirates - I loved this and the last line is heartbreaking.
10. rosy as a flushed red apple skin (never been as sweet): I was really curious about what the fic for Medieval Manuscript Illuminations were going to look like and I was not disappointed at all. They're all incredible and this is my favorite; the paywall made me giggle, and the miracle texts are, uh, spot-on.
